Triangle Strategy Removed from Nintendo Switch eShop Temporarily

Recently, Square Enix’s tactical role-playing game, Triangle Strategy, was removed from the Nintendo Switch eShop without any explanation. However, Square Enix has confirmed via social media that players who have purchased the game can still download and continue playing at any time. The game is currently available for purchase on the Steam platform, where it is also on sale. Square Enix stated in their announcement that the removal of Triangle Strategy from the Switch eShop is ‘temporary,’ but they did not provide a specific timeline for when it will be back on the platform.

On Twitter, Square Enix announced: ‘Triangle Strategy is currently not available for purchase on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Players who have purchased the game will be able to continue downloading. We are working on this issue and will update when the game is back on the eShop.’ Notably, a similar situation occurred with Octopath Traveler in March of this year, when the game was quietly removed from the eShop and later returned with changes: the global distribution shifted from Nintendo to Square Enix.

The removal of Triangle Strategy might be related to licensing issues, and it may relaunch with a different distributor in the future. Additionally, industry insiders speculate that Triangle Strategy might be preparing for a larger platform release, similar to how Octopath Traveler II launched on PS5 and Xbox, aligning with Square Enix’s recent strategy of bringing their games to more platforms. At present, Square Enix has not provided further details regarding the game’s return to the eShop or subsequent plans, leaving players to await further official announcements.
